Intelligent Rain Gauge Calibration Tips

Hey everyone, I wanted to share a quick tip regarding the calibration of my Netatmo smart rain gauge. After setting it up, I noticed some discrepancies in the readings, which was a bit puzzling. Through some research and experimentation, I discovered that the key was in how I poured the water during the calibration process.

Initially, I poured 100mL of water into the gauge, expecting it to measure around 8.1mm of rain. However, the gauge only registered about 3-4mm. After a bit of trial and error, I realized that the speed at which I poured the water was causing the gauge to saturate. The device’s maximum capacity is 150mm/h, so if you pour too quickly, it can’t keep up!

To fix this, I started pouring the water much more slowly, ensuring that each ‘click’ of the gauge was spaced out by at least 3 seconds. This simple adjustment made a world of difference, and now the readings are spot on. It’s a small tweak, but it really makes a big difference in accuracy.

If anyone else is having issues with their rain gauge calibration, I highly recommend giving this method a try. It’s all about finding the right balance and letting the device do its job without overwhelming it. Happy tinkering! :cloud_with_rain::sparkles:
