Is there a thermometer direct for a heating pipe

I want to control the temperature of a heating pipe in our heating room. Those pipes get up to 60 degrees. Do you have any suggestion you already used for this? Thank you alle, Michael

I’ve also looked for this, and for matter compatible temperature sensors with an external sensor. I want to monitor to input and output flow temperature of my underfloor heating.

The best solution I found, but it needa manual soldering, is to replace the temperature sensor with one with an external probe

Hello, I use a regular square sensor for this. I fix it with a grid (sensor) to the pipe. I take measurements taking into account the correction for temperature losses (~5-6°C). Since such pipes (hot water) are dynamic in heating, the sensitivity of ∆0.5°C is completely fine for me. I have been controlling this way since 2020. With automation 2.0, I have now started to control the “swing” of heating, this is when the boiler switches to frequent On/Off. To do this, I use the sequence in “WHEN” according to the temperature of direct water.

This is the sensor data (Aqara square thermometer) from my direct water pipe from the boiler, the temperature on the boiler is set to 50, the reading (at peak) is approximately 43 degrees.

Hello, I tried to disassemble the sensor (square), it is quite compact, small. It is easy to disassemble. If you place a small pad (heat-arousal) with thermal paste on the temperature sensor, you will get a great budget sensor. Insulate the board itself with wide heat shrink. I investigated this after your question about the temperature of the pipe.

Hello, I did some research on the sensor. My control system doesn’t require high accuracy, so I never researched it.
Today I opened the sensor. As you can see from the picture, it’s quite easy to do.

I found a small piece of foil at home (peeled off a medicine package) and folded it into a small strip.

  1. Pulled out the board.

  2. Pushed the foil strip into the second hole of the air circulation grille.

  3. Insert the button into the case (it usually falls out when pulling out the board).

  4. Gently push the board so that the temperature sensor is under the foil.

  5. Close the lid and fix the foil on the side of the sensor.

After testing the temperature on the pipe, the accuracy level and response of the sensor changed significantly compared to the normal sensor placed next to it.
I don’t have a pyrometer to compare right now, but the boiler temperature (taking into account the ~15 meter line) is quite accurate, the temperature response increased greatly when heated and decreased greatly when cooled (the pipe takes longer to cool down than the air), the comparison sensor is simply pressed against the pipe. Compare it yourself in the picture.

You can experiment yourself, use a slightly thicker foil (I took whatever came to hand).
Conclusion, theoretically you can use a square sensor with this insert (made of foil) as a surface sensor on the pipe.
