Hey everyone, I’ve been diving into integrating my Kodi setup with Home Assistant and wanted to share some of my experiences and tips! ![]()

First off, I created a remote control in Home Assistant for my Kodi install on a mini PC. It’s been a blast automating my media experience. I’ve been using services like kodi.call_method with methods like Input.Up and Input.Home to navigate through Kodi seamlessly. But I’ve been wondering if there’s a command that can take me directly to the TV series or movie page—anyone know the trick? ![]()
I’ve also been experimenting with Node-RED to connect with my Amazon smart thermostat. While the built-in binding didn’t work for me, using Node-RED with the applestrudel node has been a lifesaver! I can query the thermostat and even send actions to change the setpoint. It’s been a fun project integrating all these devices. ![]()
On the automation front, I’ve been using trigger-based templates for some door/window sensor automations, but honestly, they’ve been a bit of a pain to work with. I’ve switched to using automations instead, and it’s been much smoother! I’d love to hear others’ experiences—do you prefer automations or trigger-based templates? ![]()

Lastly, I’ve been trying to optimize my dashboards in Home Assistant. I have a few cards that I’d love to make more compact, especially for my IP cameras. Is there a way to fit more cards in the same space without compromising readability? Any tips would be appreciated! ![]()
