Hey everyone, I wanted to share an interesting experience I had with my Leviton VRMX1-1LZ dimmers after a recent power outage. I have 21 of these dimmers installed in my home, and while they’ve been working perfectly fine, a 15-second power outage due to a lightning strike caused some unexpected issues.
After the power came back on, most of my dimmers were malfunctioning. They had lost their ability to dim properly, with barely any differentiation between the lowest and highest settings. It was quite frustrating, especially since my evening lighting routine relied heavily on these dimmers.
After some trial and error, I discovered that disconnecting each dimmer from the load (what I call an ‘air gap’) and then reconnecting them seemed to resolve the issue. This process restored their proper dimming functionality. However, I noticed that this problem only affected the newer batch of dimmers I had installed, specifically those with a later firmware version.
I’m curious if anyone else has experienced similar issues with these dimmers or if there’s a known fix for this behavior. Additionally, I’d love to hear if others have upgraded to the newer DZ1KD model and if they’ve noticed any significant improvements in reliability or performance.
It’s been a bit of a learning curve, but it’s good to know that there’s a workaround for this issue. I’m hoping to avoid any future problems by being more mindful of power surges and outages. If anyone has tips or experiences to share, I’d be happy to hear them!
