Lighting Group Limitations

I am new to Aqara but not home automation. Really liking the functionality and simplicity Aqara offers.

I have two T2 bulbs in an outside up-down light. I thought this would be a good use of a Light Group by combining the bulbs. However, the light group doesn’t seem to permit colours, only tunable white. Is this a current limitation of the Light Group feature?

Hello Paul the light groups should allow colour assuming all the lights in the group are colour lights.

Thanks David. Does the protocol for the bulbs have to be Zigbee rather than Thread for colour to be available for the group?

Hello @PaulBe
In Zigbee mode, the bulbs added to the group allow you to select a color and control the color palette, that’s for sure.

Hello, @PaulBe
Both Zigbee and Thread protocols support light group control. If you are using Aqara Home, it is recommended to use the Zigbee protocol to access more software features.

Thank you. I originally left them as-is from the box which uses Thread. When I created the Light Group it only exposed white control not colour. I’ll switch them to Zigbee and try again.

Thank you for the information. As I am still learning the Aqara products, I left them as they came, which meant Thread was the default protocol. I’ve managed to switch one to Zigbee, but the other bulb seems to have failed during the reset process, and I can’t discover it now. I plan to sort this out at the weekend when I have more time.

hope you can find the answer.
