I recently upgraded my home security setup by installing four Linksys WVC54GCA cameras, and I must say, it’s been a game-changer! Being able to monitor my driveway, gate, and front door from my iPhone has given me a peace of mind I never knew I needed. However, as with any new technology, there are always a few questions that pop up along the way. One thing I’ve been pondering is the best way to ensure these cameras stay connected, especially in the event of a network outage. Should I set them up with a fixed IP address rather than relying on DHCP? I’ve heard that Vera, my home automation hub, might not automatically re-discover the cameras if their DHCP lease expires or their IP address changes. While I’m not entirely sure, I think a fixed IP might be the safer bet here. It’s just one of those things where you want to be proactive rather than reactive. What are your thoughts on this? Have any of you faced similar challenges and how did you resolve them? I’d love to hear your experiences and insights! ![]()
