I’ve been on the hunt for reliable local weather data for my Home Assistant setup, and I’m thrilled to share my recent discovery! ![]()
A long-standing weather station at the University of Cambridge has been providing weather insights for years, and I decided to integrate it into my HA setup. This custom component not only tracks temperature and humidity but also aligns perfectly with the local Dark Sky weather reports. It’s been a game-changer for my outdoor automation systems!
Here’s how I made it happen:
- Research: I stumbled upon the weather station’s data feed while exploring local community resources. It was a goldmine of real-time weather data!
- Component Development: I created a custom component to pull the data directly into HA. The setup was straightforward, and I’ve shared the code on GitHub for anyone interested.
- Integration: Now, my irrigation system adjusts based on real-time rainfall data, and my smart thermostats use the local temperature readings for optimal efficiency.

I’d love to hear if others in the Cambridge area (or beyond!) find this useful or if you’ve integrated other local weather sources. Let’s share our weather hacks! ![]()
