Hey everyone, I wanted to share some tips and tricks I’ve discovered while setting up my Lutron RadioRA 2 system with Home Assistant. I’ve been using the Motion Lighting app to trigger garage lights based on motion sensors, but I ran into an interesting challenge when working on my car. The motion sensor would activate even when I wasn’t near the door, which isn’t ideal for late-night projects!
I stumbled upon the Button to disable Off feature in Motion Lighting, which seemed like the perfect solution. The idea was to use a keypad button to toggle the motion sensor on and off. However, figuring out how to implement this on the RadioRA 2 side was a bit tricky. I couldn’t make a keypad button act as a toggle unless it was tied to a real switch or scene.
After some experimentation, I realized that using a Lutron “switch” tied to nothing could still work. The integration picks up the button press, and the LED lights up to confirm it’s been set. This effectively blocks the motion sensor from turning off the lights. Pushing the button again resets everything, which is exactly what I needed!
If you’re looking to integrate Lutron buttons with Home Assistant for similar automation, I’d recommend exploring the Motion Lighting app’s features. It’s a great way to add customization to your setup without needing additional hardware. I’d love to hear if anyone else has found creative uses for their Lutron buttons!
Cheers, [Your Name]
