M3 Hub Placement

I have a 3 story house and am trying to find the best placement for my new M3 hub. Currently on my first floor I have a G410 Hub on the front door, a G3 Camera hub in the living room. I currently have the M3 in my bedroom on the second floor connected via wifi (one of my wifi connected Deco mesh nodes is also in the bedroom).

I can move the M3 to the first floor entry way and get a fully ethernet connection to it. What placement would result in the best performance? Wifi on the second floor I imagine would give more universal coverage, but would ethernet connection on the first floor provide stronger performance?

For reference I have 3 T2 bulbs, a G4, and several door and window sensors connected to the M3.

I would not connect the M3 via cable as this does not allow it to operate as matter gateway from what I have seen in my tests. Just keep it in mind and if you use matter devices run a test by connecting the M3 via network cable to see if matter works.

Hello, it’s nice to hear that the number of M3 gateway fans is increasing. I also have an M3 connected with a network cable, there are no comments on the work. In your question about placement, you must definitely take into account the principle of organizing Zigbee communication, always remember that everything is organized like this Zigbee (battery) β†’ Zigbee (repeater, 220 v with zero) β†’ M3 β†’ WiFi<-E1 <-Zigbee (repeater, 220 v with zero)<-Zigbee (battery)β€œ. M3 and E1 are written as an example. Or directly Zigbee (battery) β†’ M2 β†’ WiFi<-E1 <-Zigbee (battery)”. Remember, a router always participates in a group of gateways.

What? @AqaraOfficial I just finished wiring my house with ethernet so I can POE my M3 hub and now this gentleman is saying it breaks matter gateway? Is this correct?
