Matter hub addition?

I use Home Assistant extensively at home. I also run a Homekit setup.

A lot of this works together nicely, however I can’t get my aqara hubs and sensors into HA.

IF i was to add a matter hub (an M3 for example) would I be able to add that to HA, does anyone know? And would it expose all the sensors connected to the other 1/2 dozen or so camera hubs? Or JUST the sensors connected to the matter hub?

@daniel21 It sounds like you’re trying to integrate your Aqara devices with Home Assistant using a Matter hub, like the Aqara Hub M3. Based on the reference information, the Aqara Hub M3 does support integration with Home Assistant through the Matter protocol. When using a Matter-supporting hub such as the M3, it will expose the child devices (sensors, switches, lights) connected to it to Matter-compatible ecosystems, including Home Assistant.

However, regarding whether it will expose sensors connected to other hubs (like camera hubs), the reference information suggests that the Matter functionality primarily applies to devices directly connected to the Matter-enabled hub. Therefore, it might only expose the sensors connected directly to the M3 and not those connected to other camera hubs.

For a more comprehensive setup or if you’re facing limitations, consider discussing this further with the community to explore potential workarounds or future updates.

Yes - that’s what I figured may be the case - just the devices connected to the matter hub in question and not the entire environment…

@daniel21 It’s great to see your understanding aligning with the current functionality! Indeed, when you use a Matter-supporting hub like the Aqara Hub M3, it will primarily expose the devices directly connected to it to Matter-compatible ecosystems such as Home Assistant. This means that the sensors and other devices connected directly to the M3 will be accessible, but it won’t extend to the entire environment or devices connected to other hubs like your camera hubs.

However, technology and integrations are always evolving, so it’s worth keeping an eye on updates or discussions within the community for any potential changes or new features. Your insight and experiences are valuable, so please continue to share and engage with others who might be in a similar setup!

Hello @daniel21
If you connect the m3 hub via matter to HA, the zigbee devices that are linked to the hub will also be added to HA and you will be able to use them.
This will work with other aqara hubs that support matter bridge. ( M1s, m2 , E1, M100, G5pro , G410 , M3 ,)

In deed, using M3 Hub can solve your question. With the Matter Bridge of this hub, all (so far supported) sensors connected to M3 will be available in Home Assistant, but not always with all sensor values that you can see in Aqara, e.g. at plugs, you will have only a switch to turn on/off in Home Assistant, but not measures like current, voltage and so on. I read in this forum that Aqara works hard on the Matter Bridge support of old Aqara Zigbee devices, so it will be a matter of time until all measures will be available (hopefully).
If you take new devices with built-in Thread support, you won‘t have this drawback because they don‘t use the Matter Bridge but are directly shared using the corresponding Matter protocols.
