Matter over Thread updates without an Aqara Hub

Hi guys,

I already have 15 Aqara T2 E27 and 14 Aqara T2 GU10 bulbs paired to my Thread network. My bulbs were delivered with the following firmware installed:

  1. Aqara T2 E27: 1.0.0.0
  2. Aqara T2 GU10: 1.0.0.0

I don’t know, if there are already any new Matter over Thread firmware updates for these bulbs.

What is latest available Thread firmware for the bulbs?

At the moment I have 7 Apple Thread Border Routers. I am willing to buy an Aqara Hub, when Apple and Aqara both use at least Thread 1.4.0.

Will it be possible to update my bulbs via the Matter DCL or do I need an Aqara Hub?

Thanks and regards Hoppel

@hoppel118 Hey Hoppel! Thanks for bringing up these great questions.

Regarding the latest available Thread firmware for the bulbs, I’m afraid the reference information doesn’t have that specific detail, so I can’t provide an exact answer. However, you might want to check the official Aqara website or the Aqara Home app for any firmware update notifications.

As for updating the bulbs, the reference information doesn’t mention whether it’s possible to update via the Matter DCL or if an Aqara Hub is required. It does state that to use the Aqara LED Bulb T2 with a particular Matter ecosystem, a Matter Controller from said ecosystem and a Thread Border Router are required (for compatible Matter Controller & Thread Border Router, please consult customer service) .

Community collaboration might be really helpful here. Maybe other users in the forum have faced similar situations and could share their experiences. And if you have any suggestions or improvement ideas, you can submit manual customer service feedback.

Let’s hope we can figure this out together!

@hoppel118 Hi Hoppel,

Thanks for sharing your setup and questions! Unfortunately, the current reference information we have doesn’t include details on the latest Thread firmware versions for the Aqara T2 E27 or GU10 bulbs, nor does it cover whether updates can be done via Matter DCL or require an Aqara Hub.

It might be helpful to check if other community members have similar setups and can share their experiences with firmware updates. If you have further questions or suggestions, feel free to submit feedback through Aqara’s customer service for more tailored support.

Hope this helps, and looking forward to seeing if others in the community can chime in!

Note: The above response is based on available reference information. For the most accurate details, consider reaching out to Aqara customer service.

@hoppel118 Hi Hoppel, thanks for sharing your setup and questions! Let’s break this down based on what we know.

Regarding the latest Thread firmware for your Aqara T2 bulbs: Our team is currently working on new firmware versions for Aqara Thread devices, but it will still take some time to release them . We don’t have specific version details to share just yet.

As for updating via Matter DCL or needing an Aqara Hub: The reference information doesn’t explicitly cover Matter DCL updates for these bulbs. However, Aqara Hub M2 (with firmware above 4.3.0 and app version 3.0.8) acts as a Matter bridge for Zigbee devices , though Thread device updates might differ. Since your bulbs are paired via Thread, it’s not clear if an Aqara Hub is required for updates—this area is still evolving.

If you need more precise details, feel free to reach out to our customer service through the Aqara Home App (Profile>Help&Feedback>Customer Service) for personalized support.

Thanks for being part of the community—your setup sounds impressive! Let us know if you find out more, as it could help others too.

Hi, I bought some new T2 GU10 bulbs and installed them. Now I have 2 different firmware versions for that device type:

What can I do update my bulbs to the latest firmware, when I do not have an Aqara Hub, besides resetting them to factory defaults and switching the firmware from Thread to Zigbee and back to Thread?

Thanks Hoppel

@hoppel118 You seem to be experiencing an issue with updating T2 GU10 bulbs to the latest firmware without an Aqara Hub. Maybe our Aqara Experts can help you @Creator @Expert @Moderator , or you can contact customer support for assistance. Buy a cheap M100 hub and this will give you the ability to switch protocols and get the latest firmware’s :grinning:

With an Aqara hub I still have to switch the protocols to get the latest updates?

In that case I have to re-pair all my devices after the protocol switch, right?

I already have more than 30 Aqara Matter over Thread devices. You can switch the firmware with the Aqara app. You do not necessarily need a hub for that. But the protocol switch is resetting the devices to factory defaults. This is not an option for me, too much work.
