Alright fellow Android and Alexa/Aqara users — I was banging my head trying to make the most of my Aqara setup without diving into the Apple ecosystem (no HomeKit, no HomePod, no Apple TV). Good news is: it totally works, and works well… once you know a few tricks.
So if you’re also team “No Apple, No Problem”, here’s what’s worked for me:
- Zigbee is your best friend. Grab an Aqara Hub M2 or M1S, hook it into your router, and pair your sensors, switches, and whatnot from there. Super stable.
- Alexa integration? Not bad at all. Install the Aqara Alexa skill and your devices start popping up quick. I’ve set up routines like automatic lights with the motion sensor, works like magic.
- For automation, the Aqara app is actually decent. A little clunky in spots, but you can still chain triggers/actions with good flexibility. Trigger humidity sensors to kick on a fan, temp sensors to control an AC, etc.
- Bonus tip: use Alexa Guard with Aqara door/window sensors for some DIY security vibes if you’re into that.
Moral of the story: Aqara plays nice with non-Apple gear if you steer it right. Anyone else running an all-Android/Alexa smart home and got clever setups going? I’m looking to steal—I mean learn—some new automation ideas. Let’s share and upgrade each other’s setups!
