Hey everyone,
Quick one here from a long-time Aqara user who’s learned things the hard way. If you’ve been swapping out coin batteries in your sensors way too often — yeah, been there. Thought I’d share a few tricks that seriously helped me stretch their battery life.
First off, placement really matters. I had a motion sensor facing a window, and every time the light changed or shadows moved — bam, trigger. Battery drained like crazy. Moved it to a shaded wall, things calmed down.
Also, be careful with your automation triggers. Some of us (me!) go overboard testing automations or stacking triggers that constantly ping the network. That back-and-forth eats batteries fast. Try using conditions smartly in Home Assistant or Aqara Home so your devices aren’t constantly working overtime.
Temperature sensors? Keep them away from drafty spots or vents — they detect constant temp swings and update too often. That sensor in my hallway used to drain in 3 months. Moved it, now hitting over a year.
Oh, and replace with the right brand batteries. I know this sounds dumb, but I dumped a batch of cheap coin cells from who-knows-where and got sad performance. Panasonic or Energizer all the way now. Worth it.
Anyone else got their own battery-saving tricks? Would love to hear how you all are optimizing your setups. Some of y’all here are like sensor ninjas.
Cheers!
