Hey everyone, just wanted to drop in and share some stuff I picked up while optimizing my Aqara Matter setup for energy savings. I’m more of a smart home hobbyist than a hardcore techie, but even I was surprised by how much juice I was wasting before fine-tuning things.
Biggest eye-opener? Automations based on real-time usage. Like, using my Aqara motion sensors to kill smart plugs in rooms that haven’t seen movement in hours. Sounds basic, but it adds up—especially when you’ve got power-hungry devices plugged in 24/7 for no reason.
Another tip: if you’re using Aqara contact sensors, try linking them with lights so they only turn on when doors open during certain hours. I set mine to work differently after sunset; saves me from lights popping on mid-day when I don’t need 'em.
Also, don’t sleep on power monitoring if you’ve got any of the plugs that support it. I was shocked (pun intended) when I checked the draw on some stuff that’s basically always on. Now I’ve got scenes shutting them down automatically at night.
Anyway, I’d love to hear if you all have your own hacks or if I’m missing something cool. Anyone gone full efficiency nerd with their Matter setup yet? Teach me your ways!
