Hello everyone! I wanted to share my recent experience with setting up smart bulbs on a 2.4GHz WiFi network, as I believe it might be helpful for others who are encountering similar challenges.
I recently purchased a few Yeelight and Mi LED smart bulbs, and while they worked perfectly when connected to my phone’s hotspot, I encountered significant issues when trying to connect them to my home WiFi. The bulbs would pulse slowly, indicating they were searching for a connection, but ultimately, the setup process would time out. This was quite frustrating, especially since the hotspot workaround wasn’t a sustainable solution.
After some research and trial and error, I discovered that the issue might be related to the router’s configuration. Here are a few tips that helped me resolve the problem:
- Check Router Settings: Ensure your router isn’t blocking the necessary ports or protocols for smart devices. Some routers have strict security settings that can interfere with IoT devices.
- Distance and Obstructions: Make sure the bulbs are placed within optimal range of your router and that there are no physical obstructions like walls or large appliances that could interfere with the signal.
- Firmware Updates: Verify that your router’s firmware is up to date. Manufacturers often release updates that improve compatibility with newer devices.
- Channel Interference: If your network is on a crowded channel, consider switching to a less congested one. This can significantly improve connection stability.
After implementing these changes, I was able to successfully connect all my bulbs to the WiFi. It’s a relief to have them working seamlessly now, and I’m excited to integrate them fully into my smart home setup.
If anyone else is struggling with similar issues, I’d love to hear your experiences and any additional tips you might have! Happy smart home tinkering! ![]()
