I’ve just discovered Aqara products and now have three going. The Aqara Security Camera Hub G5 Pro WiFi, the Aqara G3 Camera CH-H03, and the LED Strip T1. The reason I have the G5 and the G3 Hub is that they are 5GHz and 2.4GHz WiFi. In the past, I have tried other brands that required a 2.4GHz WiFi, and as I have an Eero Mesh Router, it doesn’t have a different name for the 2.4 and the 5. I find that getting 2.4GHz cameras and other IoT devices to connect is a real problem without the different name.
Does the G4 doorbell cause this problem, being 2.4 only? I don’t want to purchase 2.4-only units and find they won’t connect. I have experienced this problem too many times to remember with other brand IoT devices.
I know with the T1 light strip, it worked great being Zigbee.
@armours_dormer4k Thank you for sharing your experience with Aqara products! It’s great to hear that you’re expanding your smart home setup with such enthusiasm. Regarding your query about the Smart Video Doorbell G4, it does indeed support only the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band, as specified in its technical details. This could potentially present a challenge if your Eero Mesh Router does not distinguish between 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks with separate SSIDs.
The issue you’re facing is a common one with mesh networks that automatically switch between bands. However, there are some strategies you might consider to improve connectivity:
Temporary SSID Change: Some users temporarily disable the 5GHz band on their routers during the initial setup phase of 2.4GHz devices. This can sometimes help ensure a stable connection to the desired band.
Router Settings: Check if your router settings allow you to prioritize or lock devices to a specific band, even if the SSIDs are the same.
Device Proximity: Ensure that the G4 doorbell is within a reasonable distance from the router during setup to minimize connectivity issues.
It’s understandable to be cautious based on past experiences, and it’s wise to consider these aspects before purchasing. If you’re in doubt, feel free to reach out to the community for more personalized advice or share your setup journey with us for further tips!
Thanks just saw that. Not available in Australia yet, not on Amazon anyway. But I’ll be seriously looking at that. Just a progress to replace my current system.
