Migrating to HE and Z-Wave Stick Gen5+

I’ve been on a journey to migrate from SmartThings (ST) to Hubitat (HE) and I have to say, it’s been quite an adventure. I’ve been using the Aeotec Z-Wave Stick Gen5+ and it’s been a smooth transition so far, but I have some questions and experiences I’d like to share.

First off, I’m trying to understand the best way to integrate my Z-Wave devices. I’ve excluded all my Z-Wave and Zigbee devices from ST and included them into the Aeotec Z-Wave Stick Gen5+. Now, I’m wondering if it’s beneficial to set up the Z-Wave stick as a secondary controller alongside HE. I’ve tried putting the stick back in my RPi with Domoticz, but I’m not entirely sure if this dual setup is the best approach or if it’s just complicating things.

Another thing I’m curious about is how to pair the Aeotec Z-Wave Stick Gen5+ with HE. I’ve attempted several times to have both in inclusion mode, but HE never seems to detect the stick. Is there a specific method or trick I’m missing here? If this dual controller setup isn’t ideal, what would be the best use case for the Aeotec stick? Can I simply import the Z-Wave devices into HE and skip Domoticz altogether? I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences on this.

On a positive note, the migration process itself has been surprisingly straightforward. The Aeotec stick has been reliable, and the integration with HE has worked seamlessly for the most part. It’s just these minor hiccups that I’m trying to iron out. I’m hopeful that with some guidance, I can optimize my setup and make the most of both platforms.

If anyone has tips, tricks, or even war stories about similar migrations, I’d be thrilled to hear them. Let’s keep the conversation going and help each other navigate the sometimes tricky waters of home automation!
