Migrating to Surety: Challenges and Solutions

Migrating from Vivint to Surety has been an interesting journey. I’ve been using Vivint’s SkyControl system for years, but the lack of compatibility with Surety’s panel was a bit daunting. I wanted to keep my monthly monitoring service and some smart home capabilities, especially with Alexa integration. After some research, I found that while not all devices are compatible, there are still ways to maintain functionality. For instance, my Wyze cameras and smart locks are still working seamlessly with Alexa, which is a huge plus.

One challenge I faced was organizing my device list. With so many devices, it was overwhelming to navigate through everything. I stumbled upon a suggestion to make the device list collapsible, which would allow me to quickly find what I need without getting lost in the details. This feature would be incredibly helpful, especially for users with extensive setups.

Another thing I’ve been exploring is integrating Alexa more deeply into my smart home setup. I’ve been using voice commands to control my Wyze devices, but I’m curious if there are more advanced ways to customize these commands. For example, instead of saying “turn on,” I’d love to use more intuitive phrases like “open” or “close” for my garage door. I’ve heard that OpenHAB allows for more flexible command mappings, but I’m still figuring out how to implement this without diving too deep into coding.

Overall, the transition has been smooth, and I’m excited about the potential of Surety’s system. The community support has been invaluable, and I’m looking forward to sharing more tips and tricks as I continue to explore this new setup.
