After successfully migrating my first home from Vera to Hubitat earlier this year, I recently tackled a much larger network at my second home. The process was time-consuming, but ultimately seamless, and I wanted to share my experience and insights with the community.
The migration itself went surprisingly smoothly, with most devices integrating without a hitch. However, there were a few bumps along the way. For instance, my Somfy shades required a factory reset, which unfortunately wiped their shade settings. This taught me the importance of documenting settings before migration. Once I adjusted, the integration was flawless.
One area where I noticed significant improvement was performance. Hubitat’s responsiveness is a breath of fresh air compared to Vera. The only minor downside is the need to build custom dashboards, as Vera’s out-of-the-box solution was more intuitive. However, given the enhanced performance and reliability, this trade-off feels minor.
I’d love to hear from others who’ve made the switch—what were your experiences, challenges, and tips? Let’s continue to support each other in embracing these advancements in home automation! ![]()
