Hey everyone, I’m working on a project to monitor the status of some water pumps, and I wanted to share my experience and ask for advice. I have these water pumps controlled by non-smart controllers, and I need an easy way to check if they’re on or off.
So far, I’ve tried using a relay controller that switches the pump and also triggers a GPIO on an ESP with a buck converter. The idea is that when the pump is on, the ESP boots up and connects to the Wi-Fi, letting me know the pump is running. It’s a bit of a hack, but it works in theory.
I also looked into using Sonoff POW or Shelly devices, but they seem a bit complicated because the operating voltage is the same as the switching voltage, and I’m not sure how reliable that setup would be.
I’m curious if anyone else has tackled a similar project or has any tips on how to simplify this setup. Maybe there’s a smarter way to monitor the pumps without relying on relays and ESPs. I’m open to suggestions and would love to hear how others have approached this problem. Let’s brainstorm together! ![]()
