I’ve recently set up a morning automation routine in Home Assistant that’s transformed my mornings into a stress-free experience. I wanted to share my setup and some tips for anyone looking to create a similar routine!
The Goal:
I wanted my lights to gradually turn on, my coffee machine to start brewing, and some gentle music to play as I woke up. The idea was to mimic the feeling of a sunrise and create a calming environment to start the day.
The Setup:
- Lights: I have several smart lights in my bedroom that are set to turn on at 7:00 AM. They start at 10% brightness and gradually increase to 100% over 15 minutes. This mimics the natural light of sunrise.
- Coffee Machine: I integrated my smart coffee machine into the routine. It starts brewing at 7:10 AM, ensuring a fresh cup of coffee is ready by the time I’m fully awake.
- Music: I use Spotify to play some calming instrumental music through my smart speaker. The music starts at a low volume and slowly increases as the lights brighten.
The Automation Flow:
- At 7:00 AM, the lights begin to dim up.
- At 7:10 AM, the coffee machine starts brewing.
- At 7:15 AM, the music begins to play.
- By 7:15 AM, everything is ready for a smooth start to the day!
Tips for Setting This Up:
- Adjust the Timing: Experiment with the timings to match your sleep schedule. Some people might prefer the lights to start earlier or later.
- Customize the Music: Choose a playlist that matches your mood. I find instrumental music to be the most calming, but you could also use nature sounds or your favorite tunes.
- Add More Devices: If you have other smart devices, like a smart mirror or an air quality monitor, you could integrate them into the routine as well.
- Use Scenes: Consider creating a scene in Home Assistant that combines all these actions. This makes it easy to test and tweak the setup.
Final Thoughts:
This automation has been a game-changer for me. It creates a peaceful and intentional start to the day, and I love how much easier it makes my mornings. If you’re looking to enhance your daily routine, I highly recommend giving this a try!
