I’ve always been a fan of waking up to a bright, cozy home, but manually turning on lights and adjusting settings just wasn’t cutting it. That’s why I decided to dive into creating a morning routine automation using my smart home system. Let me share my experience and some tips for anyone looking to do the same!
The Goal:
I wanted my lights to gradually brighten, my coffee machine to start brewing, and my thermostat to adjust to a comfortable temperature—all without lifting a finger. The idea was to create a seamless transition from sleep to wakefulness.
The Process:
- Research: I started by reading through forums and tutorials to understand what was possible with my setup. I discovered that combining smart plugs, smart lights, and a smart thermostat could make this automation a reality.
- Planning: I mapped out the sequence of events: lights dim up over 15 minutes, coffee machine turns on at minute 10, and the thermostat adjusts 5 minutes before the lights finish. This timing ensures everything is ready when I wake up.
- Implementation: Using the app, I created a scene that triggers at 6:30 AM. The lights start with a soft glow and gradually increase in brightness. The coffee machine kicks in halfway through the light cycle, and the thermostat adjusts to 70°F.
The Outcome:
It’s been a game-changer! Waking up to a perfectly prepared home has made my mornings so much more enjoyable. The best part is how customizable this setup is. If I want to adjust the timing or add more devices, it’s just a few taps away.
