I’ve been really enjoying setting up my morning routine with my Sonos speakers and smart sensors. It’s amazing how a few tweaks can make the morning so much smoother! Here’s what I’ve been working on:
Sonos Automation for Music in the Morning
I have a Sonos system set up with three groups: upstairs, downstairs, and all. I love listening to CBC Toronto radio in the morning while I have my coffee. My plan is to have the Sonos system automatically play my favorite CBC radio station at a specific volume when I come downstairs in the morning. I also want to turn on the kitchen lights at the same time. The conditions seem straightforward—after 6:30 AM, and when I break the hall sensor—but I’m not sure how to trigger a specific favorite on the Sonos speakers from an automation. Has anyone successfully done this before? I’d love to hear your tips!
Smart Sensors and Automation Logic
I’m also experimenting with smart sensors to trigger different actions around the house. For example, I have a motion sensor in the garage that turns on the lights when I come in. It’s such a small thing, but it makes a big difference! I’m curious if others have similar setups or any clever ways they use motion sensors in their homes.
ZWAVE Devices and Network Stability
Another thing I’ve been thinking about is my Z-Wave network. I have a few Horstmann thermostats that are battery-powered and associated devices. I noticed that they don’t list any neighbors in the network, yet they still work fine. I’m a bit puzzled about how this works. Do they rely on some kind of default routing, or is there something else going on? I’d love to understand this better to ensure my network is as efficient as possible.
If anyone has insights or experiences to share on these topics, I’d be really grateful! It’s amazing how a well-thought-out automation can enhance daily life. Let’s keep the ideas flowing!
