Hey everyone, I wanted to share my experience with setting up motion sensors to trigger my outdoor siren. It’s been a bit of a journey, but I think I’ve got it sorted out! ![]()
Initially, I tried using my V3 cameras for motion detection, but they were too sensitive to false triggers like leaves blowing in the wind or the occasional bird. I ended up with a lot of unnecessary alerts, which was more of a nuisance than a help. ![]()
So, I decided to switch to a different setup. I went with a combination of motion and entry sensors, but they weren’t perfect on their own. They were always active, and the notifications couldn’t be turned off without the batteries dying. Not ideal for a reliable system. ![]()
Here’s what I came up with: I used a 12v 106db siren, a 120v to 12v power supply, and two WYZE plugs. I plugged the siren into WYZE plug #1, then plugged that into WYZE plug #2. This way, I could control the siren through the WYZE app. ![]()
I set up rules for the Disarmed, Home, and Away modes that turn WYZE plug #2 off or on accordingly. Then, I created triggers for each motion sensor that turn the siren on for a specific duration. The key thing I learned was that the siren takes about 30 seconds to reconnect to Wi-Fi after plug #2 is turned on, so it’s important to account for that delay in your setup. ![]()
This system has been working great for me! It only sounds when the Home or Away mode is active, which means no false alarms when the house is empty. Plus, I even wired the siren for two tones, which I use for different alerts like leaks. ![]()

I hope this helps someone else out there looking to improve their home security setup. If you have any questions or tips, feel free to share! ![]()
