Hi everyone,
I have another question about the Aqara Motion and Light Sensor P2 and the timing of the Presence / No Presence states.
I use my P2 for several automations. One of them controls my indoor Aqara G350 camera:
When the P2 detects presence near my front door, the G350 pans towards a window overlooking the front door.
When there is no longer anyone there, I want the G350 to return to its normal fixed surveillance position.
The automation works, but my problem is the delay.
It seems that once the P2 changes to Presence, it takes approximately 1 minute before it can change back to No Presence, even if the person has already left the detection area.
For my camera automation, I would prefer this to happen much faster — ideally after about 15 seconds without motion/presence.
I tried using the condition:
“No presence exceeding a set time” and set it to 15 seconds.
However, this does not seem to make the P2 change to No Presence after 15 seconds. Instead, it appears that the 15 seconds are added after the P2’s normal approximately 1-minute Presence period.
So my questions are:
Is the approximately 1-minute Presence period fixed in the Motion Sensor P2?
Is there any way to make the P2 change back to No Presence sooner, for example after 10–15 seconds without detected movement?
What exactly does “No presence exceeding a set time” mean? Does its timer only start after the P2 has already changed to No Presence?
Is there another way to build this automation so that my G350 camera can return to its normal position much sooner after the person has left?
Maybe I am simply misunderstanding how the “No presence exceeding a set time” function is intended to work.
I would be very interested to hear how other P2 users have solved similar automations.
Hi JohnD, thanks! I don’t have the “Absence Confirmation Period” option at all. I also don’t have the “Sensitivity Setting” shown in your screenshot. My P2 is currently running firmware 1.0.2.0.
So this may explain the difference. What firmware version is your P2 running?
I think the option that @JohnD showed is only available if you use beta firmware/contact support and they update your P2. But normally the P2 doesn’t have this option and its settings cannot be changed. I also don’t have this option and that’s why I use P2 as a light sensor for my balcony lights (and P1, FP2 and FP300 for presence)
Hmm? I really doubt it, the v1.0.3.0 update was released almost 2 years ago and then pulled. It’s never been back. Meanwhile most have forgotten and moved on to newer devices with much better performance
I’m not sure why they even sell it anymore. I’m guessing it’s only because it’s a Thread device and the old Firmware works fine.
My recommendation, if possible, buy a P1 motion sensor, it will provide you with all the settings in Zigbee mode. Especially since you have a G350 gateway camera. Now the cost of the sensor is not so expensive.
Thanks, I will take a look at P1 sensor. I thought this was an older version of this sensor, and it seems to be much cheaper compared to the P2 one, most be because of no Lux light sensor in P1
But you should mention that the P1 only measures light when it detects movement. The P2, on the other hand, measures light when there are significant changes in light levels, not just when it detects movement. So it’s a little better.
What’s set under “Absence Confirmation Period” in your settings? And if you don’t have that option, what firmware are you using?
I completely missed that it also has a built-in light sensor. Thanks for pointing that out and for the screenshots!
