I’ve been using the non-European servers since the very beginning, and I’m honestly happy every single day that Aqara helps me make my home more comfortable and smart.
Over time, I’ve built a very heterogeneous system with different sensors, smart plugs, and lamps from various brands. Everything works nicely together so far.
Now I would like to add an Aqara presence or motion sensor and use it to trigger an Alexa routine that switches a TP-Link / Tapo smart plug.
My question is:
Is this possible using only the built-in Aqara and Alexa integrations?
Can Alexa reliably detect and use Aqara sensor events (motion/presence) as triggers for routines?
Important:
I do NOT use HomeKit.
I do NOT want to set up Home Assistant just for this.
It should work with onboard tools only (Aqara + Alexa integration).
Has anyone successfully implemented something like this?
I’d really appreciate your experience and feedback!
I don’t personally use the Alexa integration, but I’ve read people successfully connected Aqara ecosystem to Alexa.
If you have a Matter-enabled Echo or eero device (those act as Alexa hubs), then you can also use the Matter integration. Matter integration allows you to create custom “signals” that are basically routine triggers, but the condition is configured in the Aqara app.
Oh, right, I forgot about the region difference. Although maybe it will work in this case, because those are two different ecosystems and they might not look at each other regions.
But maybe Matter integration would be a better choice overall
Thank you for all the replies so far. I think I need to clarify my situation a bit — sometimes you are just too deep inside your own thoughts and miss explaining important details.
I have already set up the connection with Alexa. However, I originally thought I was connected to the China (CN) server, but apparently that might not be the case. How can I verify which server/region my Aqara account is actually using?
For example, I would like to use the H1 Wireless Remote Switch (double rocker) to trigger Alexa routines. Unfortunately, when I press the buttons, the clicks are not detected in Alexa, so no routine is triggered.
This made me worry that I might face similar issues with the motion sensors. However, those seem to be working correctly with Alexa.
