As a young parent, I wanted to create a safe and energy-efficient environment for my baby while also ensuring peace of mind. After some research and experimentation, I stumbled upon a fantastic setup using Aqara devices that has completely transformed our home. Here’s how it works and why I think it’s worth sharing!
The Setup
The core of this system revolves around the Aqara Camera Hub G3, which serves as both a monitor and a visual status indicator. Coupled with an Aqara FP2 Presence Sensor, we can detect movement in the nursery and hallway, ensuring that we’re always aware of our baby’s needs without disturbing them unnecessarily.
For added security, we’ve installed door and window sensors on our entrance and balcony. These sensors are crucial for detecting any unexpected openings, especially during the night. If any of these sensors trigger between 20:00 and 07:00, the camera hub starts recording, and we receive an instant notification. The hallway lights also dim to 30%, providing just enough light to check the situation without blinding anyone.
Energy efficiency was another key consideration. We’ve integrated a temperature and humidity sensor in the nursery to maintain optimal conditions. If the temperature drops below our desired range, the radiator thermostat adjusts accordingly, and the camera hub’s LED changes to indicate the current status. This ensures our baby stays comfortable while avoiding unnecessary energy waste.
How It Works
- Bedtime Routine: At night, we activate the “Good Night Baby” scene, which dims the lights, closes the curtains, and turns on the humidifier and white-noise machine if needed.
- Night Guard Mode: Once the FP2 detects that only the baby is in the nursery, the system arms itself. Any door or window opening triggers an alert and lights up the hallway.
- Soft Night Path: If the baby wakes up, the FP2 dims the lights to 10% to avoid startling them. Lights fade back off once we’re no longer detected in the hallway.
- Climate Monitoring: The temperature and humidity sensor ensures the nursery stays within our comfort range, adjusting the radiator thermostat as needed.
