Hey everyone, I wanted to share my experience with OpenHAB and ‘contact’ items. I recently set up my garage door sensor, and while the sensor itself works perfectly, I noticed that it wasn’t showing up in my sitemap. At first, I was a bit confused because the status updates were visible in the items list but not in the sitemap.
I tried using different widgets like ‘text’ and ‘switch’, but nothing seemed to work. After some research and trial and error, I discovered that ‘contact’ items require a specific widget configuration to display properly in the sitemap. I ended up using a ‘switch’ widget with a custom label, which finally showed the open/closed status.
It was a bit frustrating at first, but solving the problem gave me a better understanding of how OpenHAB handles different item types. I’m really enjoying the flexibility and customization options that OpenHAB offers, even though there’s a learning curve.
