My Experience with Wyze Cam and a Smooth Video Solution

Hey everyone! I wanted to share my experience with the Wyze Cam and how I managed to get smooth video playback after facing some issues. I hope this helps someone else out there!

A while back, I noticed that the video from my Wyze Cams (v1, v2, and v3) was lagging and not playing smoothly through the app. It was frustrating because I rely on these cams to keep an eye on things around the house. I did some research and found out that the issue might be related to my router’s network settings. Turns out, my router was trying to connect the cams to the 5GHz band, but Wyze Cams only operate on the 2.4GHz band.

Here’s what I did to fix it:

  1. Set Up a Guest Network: I created a guest network on my router specifically for the Wyze Cams. This network only operates on the 2.4GHz band.
  2. Security Settings: I made sure the guest network used WPA & WPA2 security, which I believe is what the Wyze Cams are compatible with.
  3. Reconnecting the Cams: I reset each Wyze Cam and connected them to the new guest network using the app. After that, the video playback became smooth again!
  4. Switching Back: Once everything was set up, I switched my phone back to the main dual-band network to avoid any performance issues. I also disabled auto-join for the guest network on my phone to prevent any accidental connections.

This setup has been working perfectly for the past few days. The only thing I need to do now is connect to the guest network when adding a new Wyze Cam, but everything else works seamlessly.
