I can’t believe how long Aqara has been part of my smart home journey!
Roll the clock back to June 2021, the UK was just coming out of its lockdown restrictions, and like I’m sure many of us did whilst stuck at home I had a fledgling smart home (at that point a couple of Ikea bulbs).
Let’s expand this thing. What would be useful? Lawnmower? Nah, I don’t have a lawn. Fans? It’s the UK, we don’t have heat.
I know! A bit of security. One Google search later and I’ve come across the Aqara G2H camera. I’d never heard of the company before, but the little camera was bright yellow (Chinese import) and that was slightly more fun than the others I’d seen. It’s also a hub? Bonus! That means I can expand later with their Zigbee sensors.

Since then the Aqara line-up in the home has expanded. Temperature sensors, curtain bots, mmw sensors, light switches… you name it, I’ve probably tried it.
And the little yellow camera that started it all? It’s been adopted by a family member when they first moved into their new home and lives on with them.
