My Govee LED Strip Adventure: Under the Bookshelf Lighting

Hi everyone, I’m so excited to share my latest smart home project with you! :star2: I’ve always loved how LED strips can completely transform a space, and I finally decided to give it a go under my bookshelves. It’s been a journey filled with learning, a few bumps along the way, and some awesome community support. Let me walk you through it!

First off, I went with Govee LED strips because I heard they’re flexible and easy to install. I was thrilled when they arrived, but then the real work began. I wanted the strips to run the entire length of my bookshelves, which meant I needed to cut them to fit perfectly. I remember reading in one of the forum posts that some LED strips can be cut and reconnected, so I gave it a try. It worked like a charm! I used some heavy-duty adhesive to secure them, and now they look seamless. I even added a remote control for easy adjustments—no more fumbling with the phone!

But here’s where things got a bit tricky. I wanted the lights to turn on automatically when I walk into the room, so I set up a simple automation using my existing motion sensor. At first, it worked perfectly, but after a few days, the lights started flickering. I was a bit worried, but I remembered seeing a tip in another forum post about checking the power supply. Turns out, the adapter I was using wasn’t providing enough power for the entire strip. I upgraded to a higher-rated adapter, and voilà! Problem solved. :tada:

I also wanted to integrate the LED strips with my existing smart home setup. I found a fantastic guide on how to connect them with my Hubitat system, which allowed me to control them through my voice assistant. It’s amazing how everything works together now. I even set up a scene where the lights dim slightly when it’s late at night, creating the perfect reading atmosphere.

I’d like to give a huge shoutout to the community here for all the helpful tips and troubleshooting advice. It’s amazing how supportive everyone is, and I feel so lucky to be part of such a great group. If anyone is thinking about installing LED strips, I highly recommend starting small, testing everything out, and don’t hesitate to ask for help if you run into any issues. You’ll be surprised how much difference a little lighting can make! :bulb::sparkles:

Happy DIY-ing, everyone! :star2:
