My Journey Integrating AV Equipment with Hubitat

I’ve been on an exciting journey integrating my home theatre with Hubitat, and I’d love to share my experiences and insights with the community!

My Goals
I wanted to streamline my home theatre setup by integrating it with Hubitat, Alexa, and HomeKit. My main objectives were to control various AV devices like my TV, Apple TV, and HDMI switch using voice commands. For example, saying “Alexa, turn on Apple TV” should seamlessly switch the TV input and power on the respective devices.

Challenges and Solutions
Initially, I faced some hurdles in getting all devices to communicate smoothly. I broke down the problem into smaller tasks, such as controlling the TV power, managing the HDMI switch, and exposing these controls to HomeKit. After some research and experimentation, I developed custom integrations that allowed me to achieve the desired functionality.

GitHub Repository
For those interested, I’ve documented my journey and shared the code on GitHub. While I can’t provide direct links, a quick search for “Hubitat-AudioVideo” should lead you to my repository. It includes detailed explanations, hardware setups, and the code I developed to make this integration possible.

Lessons Learned
This project taught me the importance of breaking down complex tasks into manageable subtasks. It also highlighted the potential of Hubitat for custom integrations, especially in areas where off-the-shelf solutions are limited. I’m excited to see how the community can build on these efforts and unlock even more possibilities for AV control.

Looking Ahead
I’m already brainstorming ways to expand this setup. Ideas include integrating soundbars, improving voice command accuracy, and exploring more advanced automation scenarios. If anyone has tips or suggestions, I’d love to hear them!

Thank you for reading, and I hope this post inspires others to explore the creative potential of Hubitat in their own AV setups!
