My Journey Integrating Smart Lighting and Motion Sensors

Hey everyone! I wanted to share my recent experience integrating smart lighting and motion sensors in my home. It’s been a fascinating project, and I’d love to hear your thoughts or tips!

I recently purchased a set of Govee smart lights and a Zooz ZSE18 motion sensor. My goal was to create a seamless system where the lights automatically adjust based on motion and time of day. While the initial setup was straightforward, I encountered a few challenges that I thought I’d walk through.

First, the motion sensor integration. I’m using the advanced Zooz driver, and while it detects motion reliably, I noticed an issue where the sensor status on my dashboard remained stuck in the ‘ACTIVE’ state. After some troubleshooting, I realized it was a caching issue with the dashboard tile. Deleting and recreating the tile fixed the problem, but I’m still curious if others have experienced similar issues.

Next, the lighting automation. I wanted the lights to turn on bright white when motion is detected and then dim to a warmer color when motion stops. I set up a rule where the lights transition to match the state of another bulb, but I’m still experimenting with the transition times to make it feel natural. It’s been a great learning experience, and I appreciate how versatile the Govee bulbs are in terms of color and brightness adjustments.

One thing I’d love to explore further is integrating this system with my security setup. I’d love it if the lights could adjust without triggering the alarm system, especially for late-night adjustments. If anyone has tips or experiences with similar integrations, I’d be thrilled to hear about them!

Overall, this project has been a fantastic way to enhance my home’s comfort and efficiency. It’s amazing how a combination of smart devices can create such a personalized experience. I’m excited to continue tweaking and expanding this system in the future!

Cheers,
