The idea was to create a seamless, integrated system that would enhance both convenience and safety. However, the road to achieving this wasn’t without its bumps.### Challenges Faced1. Wyze Cam Floodlight V2 Compatibility: One of my early hurdles was figuring out whether the Wyze Cam Floodlight V2 could work alongside the Cam Plus Lite. After some research and reaching out to the community, I discovered that while they can coexist, motion-activated video storage requires a higher-tier subscription. This was a bit disappointing, but I decided to proceed with the setup, knowing that I could always upgrade later if needed.2. GE Smart Switch Integration: Another challenge came with integrating my GE smart switches into the ecosystem. Initially, they weren’t recognized correctly by my hub, and manual overrides were necessary. After some troubleshooting and configuration adjustments, I managed to get them working seamlessly with my existing setup.3. Shelly Plug Configuration: Setting up the Shelly Plug was a breeze, but I encountered an unexpected issue with live power tracking. While the device itself is fantastic, the lack of real-time wattage monitoring was a minor setback. I’ve since found workarounds using third-party apps, which has been a satisfactory solution.### TriumphsDespite the hurdles, there have been plenty of rewarding moments:- Wyze Cam Audio Delay Fix: I was initially frustrated by the audio-video delay in my Wyze cameras. However, after updating the firmware and tweaking some settings, the issue was resolved, and the cameras now perform exceptionally well.- Custom Automation Success: I created a custom automation using OpenHAB to control my lighting based on motion sensors and time of day. It’s been a game-changer, providing both energy efficiency and enhanced security.### Lessons Learned- Research is Key: Before purchasing any device, thorough research and community feedback can save a lot of time and frustration.- Patience Pays Off: Automation setups can be complex, but taking the time to understand each component and how they interact is invaluable.- Community Support: The smart home community is incredibly supportive.
