I began with a few basic devices—a smart plug and some LED lights. It was exciting to control them via my phone, but I quickly realized the potential for more automation. I decided to invest in a Hubitat hub to manage everything under one roof.
The Learning Curve
Setting up my first automation was both thrilling and frustrating. I wanted my lights to turn on when I entered the room, but getting the motion sensor to communicate with the lights wasn’t straightforward. After some research and trial and error, I figured out the right configuration. It was a great feeling to see it all work seamlessly!

Security is a top priority, so I added a Fibaro smoke detector. It’s reassuring to know that I’ll be alerted in case of an emergency. I also integrated my existing Sonos speakers to act as alarms, providing an extra layer of safety.

I wanted my smart home setup to look as good as it functions. I mounted a tablet as a dashboard in the living room, which is both functional and sleek. Finding the right mount and ensuring it worked seamlessly with my setup was a fun project.
