My Journey with Smart Lighting and Energy Monitoring

Recently, I embarked on a project to upgrade my home’s lighting system with smart bulbs and integrate energy monitoring to better understand my consumption patterns. This journey has been both exciting and enlightening, though not without its challenges.

I started by installing a set of Govee table lamps and outdoor lights, which immediately transformed the ambiance of my living spaces. The ability to customize colors and brightness through my smartphone was a game-changer. However, I soon encountered an issue with the LED strips in my kitchen. Despite following the manufacturer’s instructions, the lights would occasionally flicker or fail to turn on. After some research, I discovered that the problem was related to the power supply unit, which I eventually replaced to resolve the issue.

In parallel, I set up a system to monitor my energy consumption using a combination of smart plugs and a Tasmota-based energy meter. This setup allowed me to track real-time usage and identify areas where I could reduce waste. One unexpected challenge was ensuring accurate data transmission from the Tasmota device to my Home Assistant instance. After some troubleshooting, I realized that adjusting the MQTT broker settings and ensuring a stable network connection resolved the issue.

Reflecting on this experience, I’ve learned the importance of thorough research and patience when integrating new smart devices. The community support forums have been invaluable in helping me overcome obstacles, and I’m grateful for the shared knowledge that made this project possible. Moving forward, I plan to expand my smart home ecosystem by adding more sensors and automations, all while keeping energy efficiency at the forefront.

If anyone has tips or recommendations for further enhancing my setup, I’d love to hear them! Happy tinkering! :rocket:
