Hey everyone, I wanted to share my latest DIY project with you all. I’ve been really into smart lighting lately, and I decided to take it to the next level by creating a custom wall lighting setup for my living room. I’ve always loved the idea of syncing different lighting sources for a cohesive look, and this project really allowed me to explore that. I started by purchasing a 20-meter RGB light strip from Amazon for around £14. It was surprisingly affordable and came with a remote control, which I thought would be super handy. I decided to mount the lights along the top of my living room wall, creating a soft, ambient glow that I can adjust to match the mood of the room. To keep things simple, I used some 3x2 timber that I had lying around. I machined it down at work to get the perfect finish, and it really ties the whole setup together. The installation process was a bit of a learning curve, but I managed to figure it out by watching a few tutorial videos. I used some adhesive strips to attach the light strip to the timber, ensuring it was securely in place. I also added some dimmer switches to control the brightness, which I picked up from a local hardware store. It might sound basic, but having that level of control really makes a difference. One of the best parts of this project was integrating it with my existing smart home setup. I have a few Philips Hue lights in the room, and I was able to sync them perfectly with the new RGB strip using my home automation app. It’s amazing how everything works together seamlessly now. I can set up routines to change the lighting based on the time of day or even my mood. For example, in the evening, I set it to a warm, golden hue to create a cozy atmosphere, and during the day, I switch it to a cooler white light for a brighter feel. I also wanted to keep the project budget-friendly, so I made sure to reuse some materials I already had. The total cost came out to around £40, which I think is a great deal for such a transformative addition to my home. It’s always satisfying to see how a small investment can make such a big impact. I’m really proud of how this project turned out. It’s not just about the aesthetics—it’s about creating a functional, smart space that I can enjoy every day. If anyone has similar projects or tips for integrating different lighting sources, I’d love to hear about them! Let’s keep the DIY spirit alive and share our creations with each other.
