Every smart home should start with something truly important: coffee.
My automation makes sure that the moment I get out of bed, my coffee machine wakes up before I even reach the kitchen. Here’s how it works:
- The Aqara FP2 Presence Sensor detects me in the morning.
- The Aqara M3 Hub processes the automation and communicates via Matter.
- The SwitchBot Hub 2 bridges the command to the SwitchBot Bot.
- The Bot presses the power button on my coffee machine.
Add a few time conditions (so my cat doesn’t get free coffee at 3 a.m.), and voilà: caffeine on demand, powered by Aqara.
1. Device Details
- Brand & Model:
- Aqara M3 Hub – the Matter brain of my smart home.
- SwitchBot Bot – the little robotic finger that presses my coffee machine’s physical power button.
- SwitchBot Hub 2 – the bridge that brings SwitchBot devices into the Matter ecosystem.
- Aqara Presence Sensor FP2 – the human detector that ensures only I (and not the cat) get coffee.
- Type: Hub, smart actuator, bridge, and sensor.
- Usage: Automated coffee machine control.
2. Aqara Home Integration Proof
- Added Devices: The M3 Hub recognizes the SwitchBot Hub 2 as a Matter device. The Bot is exposed as an actuator.
- Control Pages: In Aqara Home, the Bot appears with a simple on/off toggle.
- Supported Functions:
- On/Off triggering of the Bot.
- Automations with FP2 zones.
- Time-based restrictions for reliable behavior.
3. My Experience
- Pairing Process: Smooth. The M3 Hub picked up the Matter bridge immediately, and the Bot became available without fuss.
- App Control Feedback:
- Stability: Excellent.
- Latency: Near instant. Detection → action in less than a second.
- Limitations: The Bot only presses buttons (no advanced states), but that’s all I need for coffee.
- Issues Encountered: FP2 sometimes triggered on the cat. Fixed by adding conditions: only between 6:00–9:30 a.m., only in the kitchen zone.
4. Bonus Points – Automation Story
When I step into the hallway half-asleep, the FP2 immediately detects me.
→ The Aqara M3 sends a Matter command.
→ The SwitchBot Hub relays it.
→ The Bot presses the coffee machine button.
→ I arrive in the kitchen to the smell of fresh coffee.
I even added a fail-safe: if I’m still asleep by 8:30 a.m., the system powers the coffee machine anyway, because no one should miss caffeine.

Closing Note
In short: Aqara + SwitchBot + Matter = coffee on autopilot.
The pairing was smoother than my first espresso shot, and now my mornings run automatically, powered by Aqara.
