Aqara Power Plug H2 UK & RGB Review: Zigbee or Thread?
Can the Aqara Power Plug H2 UK make ordinary appliances smarter—and should you choose the standard or RGB version?
In this review, I set up and test both the Aqara Power Plug H2 UK SP-P07E and the Aqara Power Plug H2 UK RGB SP-P07D. I demonstrate the RGB model using Zigbee and the standard model using Matter over Thread, explore the Aqara Home menus and show how the plugs worked across the smart-home platforms demonstrated in the video.
You’ll see live and historical energy monitoring, the RGB power-consumption indicator, child lock testing, power-off memory options and the differences I found between the Zigbee and Thread menus.
I also show the plugs in Apple Home, demonstrate Alexa control and add the Matter-over-Thread plug to Home Assistant using Matter’s multi-admin pairing route. In Home Assistant, I look at the controls and energy-related information exposed during my testing.
The practical examples include controlling ordinary appliances, creating useful automations and monitoring how much power connected equipment is drawing. I also compare the plug’s physical size with an Eve Energy plug and discuss where the compact design could be useful.
The standard and RGB versions offer a similar core experience, but the RGB model adds a visual indication of power consumption. Whether that is useful will depend on whether you want an immediate visual cue or simply want the monitoring data inside your chosen smart-home system.
Please note that the Apple Home energy-monitoring section was recorded while using an iOS 27 beta. It is a version-specific observation and may change as Apple’s software develops.
