Hi everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience with setting up some smart home automations. It’s been a fun journey, but definitely comes with its learning curves!
One thing I’ve been working on is creating a scene that adjusts my living room lights based on the time of day and motion detection. I’ve been using Luup for this, and while it’s powerful, it does require some careful scripting. For example, I set it up so that between 4 PM and 11:30 PM, if the light level drops below a certain threshold, the lights automatically turn on. After 11:30 PM, they turn off unless motion is detected. It’s been working really well, but I had to play around with the timing and conditions a bit to get it just right.
Another project I’ve been working on is integrating my garage door opener with Home Assistant. I have a Tasmota setup with a D1 Mini, magnetic sensor, and dual relay. Initially, everything was showing up as switches, but I wanted to convert them into a cover entity so Google Assistant could recognize it properly. After some research and tweaking, I managed to get it working by using MQTT commands to control the up and down functions. It’s a bit of a hack, but it works seamlessly now!
I’d love to hear from others who have tackled similar projects. What are some of your favorite automations or integrations? Any tips or tricks you’d be willing to share? Let’s keep the conversation going and help each other out!
Cheers,
