Hi everyone! I wanted to share a fun DIY project I recently completed for my living room. I’ve always been a fan of Star Wars, and I thought it would be awesome to create a lightsaber display that lights up when the room gets dark or when motion is detected. Here’s how I did it:Materials Used:- 3D-printed lightsaber replicas- Govee LED strip lights (I love their app control and color settings)- A motion sensor- A light sensor- Some basic wiring and a power source**The Setup:**I mounted the lightsabers on a small shelf and wrapped the LED strip around them. The strip is connected to both the motion and light sensors. The idea is that when it gets dark or when someone walks by, the lightsaber blades light up in their respective colors (blue for Obi-Wan and red for Darth Vader).**Challenges:**Initially, I had some issues with the sensors. The motion sensor kept triggering false positives because of the LED strip’s flickering. After some research, I found that adding a small delay in the automation settings helped stabilize things. I also had to adjust the sensitivity of the motion sensor to avoid over-triggering.**Tips for Others:**1. Sensor Placement: Make sure your sensors are placed away from direct light sources or areas with a lot of movement to avoid false triggers.2. Automation Delays: Don’t be afraid to add small delays in your automations to prevent unexpected behavior.3. Color Coordination: If you’re using multiple LED strips, plan out your color scheme beforehand to ensure everything looks cohesive.**Final Thoughts:**This project turned out better than I expected! It adds a fun, interactive element to my living room, and my kids absolutely love it. Plus, it was a great way to combine my love for Star Wars with my interest in smart home tech.If anyone has similar projects or tips, I’d love to hear about them! Happy building! :starwars:
