My Smart Home Journey: From Innogy to Homey

Hi everyone, I wanted to share my journey of transitioning from an Innogy system to Homey. It’s been quite an adventure! I’ve always been interested in smart home technology, but the Innogy system, while functional, felt a bit limiting. So, I decided to dive into the world of Zigbee and Z-Wave with Homey.

At first, I was impressed with how smooth Zigbee integration was. The devices connected effortlessly, and the setup was a breeze. However, Z-Wave proved to be a bit more challenging. The range of the Homey hub wasn’t as extensive as I hoped, which meant I had to invest in some powered devices and extenders to get everything working seamlessly.

One thing I’ve noticed is how the mesh network operates. Coming from an IT background, I was expecting a full mesh setup, but it seems more like a spine-leaf architecture. I’m still learning how to optimize the network paths to ensure all devices communicate effectively.

I’ve also been experimenting with automations, trying to streamline my daily routines. For example, I set up a rule where my lights dim and my thermostat adjusts when I leave the house. It’s been a great way to save energy without sacrificing comfort.

If anyone has tips on improving mesh network performance or has experienced similar challenges with Z-Wave, I’d love to hear about them! Looking forward to connecting with more of you and learning from your experiences. Cheers, Basti :star2:
