My Smart Home Journey: Lights, Thermostats, and Security

Hey everyone, I wanted to share a bit about my journey setting up my smart home. It’s been a mix of excitement, learning, and a few bumps along the way, but I’m loving the result!

I recently did a DIY project with some RGB lights, using blue and pink tones to create a futuristic vibe. It’s amazing how much it enhances the gaming experience, especially for something like Cyberpunk. I’d recommend using lower brightness settings for a more subtle, ambient effect. It’s been a hit in the evenings!

One thing I’ve been researching is finding the right smart thermostat. I came across the Govee smart heater (7130) and I’m really interested in pairing it with a thermometer that can connect via Wi-Fi. I’d love to hear if anyone has experience with this setup or recommendations for reliable thermometers.

On the security front, I’ve been looking into the Avia Smart Sash Fastener for my windows. It’s a great blend of traditional and smart technology, with Apple Home compatibility. I’m impressed by its ability to send real-time updates to my iPhone and the fact that it can be retrofitted to existing windows. The only downside I see is the reliance on Bluetooth LE instead of Thread, but it’s still a solid product.

I’ve also been exploring the Hubitat ecosystem. It’s been a learning curve, especially with setting up rules and automations. For instance, I tried creating a simple rule where a motion sensor triggers the lights, but sometimes it doesn’t work if I manually turn off the lights first. I’d appreciate any tips on how to ensure the automation runs smoothly regardless of manual interventions.

Overall, it’s been a fascinating journey. Each new device or project brings a sense of accomplishment, and I’m excited to see how my smart home evolves. Thanks to everyone in the community for the support and shared knowledge!

Cheers, A Smart Home Enthusiast
