I’ve been diving into the world of smart lighting over the past few months, and I must say, it’s been an incredible journey! 
I started with the basics—Philips Hue bulbs and a Homey Pro hub—but I wanted to take it to the next level by integrating my existing Govee lights into the mix. Let me share how I made it happen and some tips I picked up along the way!
The Goal: Seamless Automation
I wanted my lighting to adapt to my daily routine without any hassle. Whether I’m coming home in the evening or entertaining guests, the lights should adjust automatically. The challenge? Making sure all devices communicated smoothly despite being from different brands.
The Setup: Philips Hue + Govee Harmony
I began by pairing my Govee lights with the Hue without a bridge app. At first, I was a bit confused about how to get them into pairing mode, but after some research, I found that holding the power button for 5 seconds did the trick! 
Now, both Hue and Govee bulbs are seamlessly integrated into my Homey setup.
Automating My evenings
One of my favorite automations is the “Evening Mood” scene. When I press the button on my Homey wall display, the Hue bulbs dim to a warm golden hue, while the Govee RGB strips cycle through soft colors to create a relaxing ambiance. It’s like having a personal lighting therapist! 
Tips for Integration Enthusiasts
- Compatibility Check: Always verify if your devices are compatible with your hub before purchasing. I was lucky with Govee, but it’s a good practice to confirm.
- Scene Creation: Don’t be afraid to experiment with different scenes. I started with simple setups and gradually added more complexity as I got comfortable.
- Community Support: If you hit a snag, don’t hesitate to ask for help. The Homey community is incredibly supportive and full of helpful tips!
The Future: Expanding the Setup
Now that my lighting setup is up and running, I’m eyeing some Govee rope lights for my backyard and maybe even some smart switches to control my traditional lights. The possibilities are endless, and I can’t wait to see how my setup evolves!
