My Smart Plug Journey: Overcoming Challenges in Cold Climates

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my experience with smart plugs, specifically the HAOZEE wave Plus Mini Smart Plug. I’ve been using it to control a motor-driven thermostat on my gas hot water heater, but I’ve run into some issues that I thought might be worth discussing with the community.

First off, I love the idea of having a smart plug—it’s supposed to make life easier by automating tasks. However, I’ve noticed that the plug isn’t as reliable as I hoped, especially during the colder months here in Central Oregon. The temperatures in my garage can drop to the high teens, and I suspect that’s contributing to the plug’s inconsistent performance. Sometimes it works perfectly, but other times it becomes unresponsive, even though my Vera Edge hub is just 3 feet away.

I’ve tried troubleshooting—rebooting the plug, resetting it, checking the connection to the hub—but nothing seems to consistently fix the issue. It’s frustrating because I rely on this setup to manage my water heater efficiently. I’ve heard that some smart plugs aren’t built to handle extreme temperatures, so I’m wondering if there’s a more robust option out there that can handle the cold better.

Has anyone else experienced similar issues with their smart plugs in cold environments? I’d love to hear about your experiences and any recommendations you might have for finding a more reliable plug. If there’s a specific brand or model that’s known for handling low temperatures well, I’d be grateful for the heads-up!

On a positive note, I’m really impressed with how the smart plug integrates with my existing setup. It’s just a shame that the reliability isn’t quite there. I’m hopeful that with some research and community input, I can find a solution that works better for my situation.

Thanks in advance for your help and advice!
