I just wanted to share my recent experience with upgrading to the SmartThings V3 hub. After years of dealing with Z-Wave instability, I decided it was time for a fresh start. The migration process was intense—relocating over 360 devices from the old V2 hub to the new V3 hub took a full week, but it was worth every minute of effort.
One of the most surprising aspects was how seamlessly everything paired. I was able to successfully connect every single Z-Wave device in place, including those tricky ones in the detached garage that were always a nightmare with the V2 hub. No need to move the hub or manually pair devices—it just worked.
The V3 hub’s Z-Wave performance is a night-and-day improvement. Devices stay online consistently, and the range is significantly better. I even managed to pair some switches and sensors that had always been problematic in the past.
If you’re on the fence about upgrading, I’d highly recommend it. The investment of time pays off in the form of a much more reliable and stable system. Plus, the ability to run Z-Wave repairs without the system crashing is a huge bonus.
I’d love to hear from others who’ve made the switch—what were your experiences? Did you notice similar improvements in performance? Let’s keep the conversation going! ![]()
