Hey everyone! I just wanted to share my recent DIY smart lighting project—it was a lot of fun and I learned so much along the way. I’ve been wanting to upgrade my home lighting for a while, and finally decided to take the plunge with some RGBIC LED strips and a Govee controller. ![]()
I started by researching different LED strip options and settled on the Govee H61B5 RGBIC strips because of their versatility and color range. I wanted something that could handle both warm and vibrant colors, and these definitely didn’t disappoint! The installation process was straightforward—just a matter of measuring my spaces and cutting the strips to fit. I used them in a few different areas: under my kitchen cabinets for task lighting, along the bottom of my entertainment center for a subtle glow, and even in my bathroom for a spa-like vibe. ![]()
One thing I was worried about was the control system. I’ve heard mixed things about different brands, but the Govee app has been a lifesaver. It’s super intuitive, and I love how I can create custom scenes and schedules. For example, I set up a “Good Morning” routine that gradually brightens the lights in my bedroom to simulate sunrise, which has made waking up so much easier! ![]()
I also experimented with some DIY projects to customize the look. I made some fabric covers for the strips to blend in better with my decor, and even added some motion sensors to automate the lights in my hallway. It’s amazing how these small tweaks can make such a big difference in functionality and aesthetics. ![]()
Overall, I’m thrilled with how everything turned out. Not only did I save money by doing it myself, but I also got to tailor the setup exactly to my needs. If you’re thinking about a similar project, I’d say go for it! Just take your time to plan and don’t be afraid to get creative. Happy DIY-ing! ![]()
