Hi everyone!
I wanted to share my journey in creating a smart home setup that seamlessly integrates multiple devices from different brands. After experimenting with various sensors, automations, and hubs, I’ve finally achieved a system that works like clockwork! ![]()

My Setup Overview
- Smart Lighting: Philips Hue, Wyze Bulbs, and Legrand Smart Switches
- Security: Wyze Outdoor Camera, Arlo Pro 5S, and Aqara Door/Window Sensors
- Climate Control: Shelly Plus 1 PM and Wyze Smart Thermostat
- Automation Hub: OpenHAB with ESPHome integration
Key Insights and Tips
- Device Compatibility: Mixing brands was a challenge, but using OpenHAB as a universal hub made it possible!

- Scene Automation: I created scenes for different times of day (e.g., bedtime, morning wake-up) using schedules and geofencing.

- Security Layering: Combining motion detection with door sensors has significantly boosted my home’s security.
vigilante - Energy Efficiency: The Shelly Plus 1 PM helps monitor energy usage in real-time, which has been a game-changer for reducing costs.

Lessons Learned
- Configuration is Key: Spend time fine-tuning each device’s settings to ensure smooth operation.
- Community Resources: Forums like this have been invaluable for troubleshooting and sharing ideas.

- Start Small: Don’t overwhelm yourself—build your system gradually and expand as you learn more.

What’s Next?
I’m planning to add soil moisture sensors for my garden and explore more advanced voice control integrations. If anyone has tips or recommendations, I’d love to hear them! ![]()
