Hi everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience setting up a Zigbee network in my home. As someone who’s relatively new to the world of smart home automation, I’ve been on a bit of a learning curve, but it’s been an exciting journey!
I started by purchasing a ConBee II Zigbee coordinator, which I’ve heard great things about. After setting it up on my Raspberry Pi, I decided to expand my network by adding a second Zigbee coordinator for the basement. My main question was whether having two coordinators would cause any issues or interference. From what I’ve read, as long as they’re on different channels, they should work in parallel without problems. I’m planning to test this out over the next few weeks and will keep the community updated on how it goes!
Another area I’ve been exploring is finding the right smart switches for my setup. I’ve come across a lot of devices that use semiconductor switches, but I’m specifically looking for ones with internal relays to avoid any leakage current when the switch is off. If anyone has recommendations or knows of any devices that work well with Vera, I’d love to hear about them!
On a lighter note, I’ve also been experimenting with creating custom widgets for my OpenHAB setup. It’s been a bit of a challenge figuring out the markup and where to find the right documentation, but I’ve managed to tweak some existing examples to fit my needs. It’s incredibly satisfying to see the dashboard come together and reflect my personal style!
I’d like to give a huge shoutout to everyone in this community who’s been so helpful. Whether it’s through detailed tutorials, troubleshooting advice, or just sharing experiences, you’ve all made this journey much more enjoyable. Here’s to many more projects and learning opportunities ahead!
