Need a Nightlight and No Outlet? No problem!

I put in some night lighting in my bathroom where I don’t have access to a convenient outlet. I used the following:

  1. Aqara LED Strip T1

*Depending on your needs, you can extend the strip up to 10 meters with the T1 extension kits (sold separately). The 10 meters is based on being able to plug into an outlet. What I am suggesting will be using a battery source, which may limit the maximum length. Depending on your needs, you would have to test and see.

*I would recommend the following cables and connectors if you need to extend. If you look online, you can find some cables that already have the connectors built-in. However, they come in fixed lengths. The roll of 5-pin ribbon/cable gives you more flexibility.

  1. Aqara Motion Sensor
  1. Uninterruptible Power Supply

*You could also use a large capacity power bank.

  1. Barrel Jack to USB Type A Female Connector Adapter

In place of the Aqara power plug, you could connect the adapter to the LED’s barrel plug and connect the USB side to the UPS or a Power Bank.

Since mine is used as a night light in the bathroom that is triggered by an Aqara Motion Sensor under my bed when I get up in the middle of the night to use the restroom, the light is set to a warm white at a very low level. As a result, it will probably be months before you ever have to charge it. But, I guess it depends on how often you get up in the middle of the night. My automation will also only trigger the light if my third party ambient light sensor indicates that the light level is under a certain lux level.

I hope this helps some of you or at least inspires you to do try something similar. I would love to see a reply or a post with what you did. Good luck.
